At the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s OysterFest on Saturday, October 29, get ready to celebrate the Bay’s preferred shellfish.

The oyster culture never goes out of style. Oysters are delicious meat for classy people who have an elegant choice of taste. There are millions of oyster lovers spread around the world and it says all about the glory of oysters as seafood. The oyster festivals which are organized to celebrate the oyster culture are another proof of the magnificence of this bi-valve. You can attend ten oyster festivals each year and by the time of your death, you will still have a few on your bucket list. 

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum organizes an oyster festival in St. Michaels, Maryland each year. The Oyster Fest is a grand celebration of oysters with delightful dishes made of oysters along with freshly harvested local Chesapeake oysters. This is a once-in-a-year chance to sip, slurp, and savor some good oysters while having fun.

 The event has live music on two stages, boat rides, retriever demonstrations, oysters and other local fares, an oyster stew competition, and cooking demonstrations. Oyster Fest is a family-friendly event with plenty of children’s activities and educational segments such as oyster demonstrations, harvesting displays, and Chesapeake-related documentary screenings.

 Do you need more reasons to convince yourself to hit Oyster Fest 2022 with your family? Talbot County is famous for outdoor activities such as boating, sailing, and kayaking and many towns have public docks, kayak launches, and marinas. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is also an eighteen acres waterfront museum and Talbot County holds a large portion of the Bill Burton Fishing Pier State Park. The county has many charter captains who offer the tourists rides aboard their fishing boats, skipjacks, and sailboats. So visiting Talbot County for the Oyster Fest will definitely be a memorable experience for everyone.

If you visit the Oyster Fest, you can taste loads of Chesapeake Bay wild and cultivated oysters which are served in many forms, steamed or raw, oyster fritters, crab cakes, fried shrimp, clam strips, pit beef, pit turkey, and pulled pork, amidst of many other dishes. 

Lyon Distilling Company will be there at the Oyster Fest serving a specialty rum cocktail, along with many other drinks including oyster shooters and Chesapeake-style Bloody Marys, featuring George’s Bloody Mary mix. To treat your sweet tooth, there will be sweets and treats like ice cream, funnel cakes, kettle corn, and more.

6.    Family activities 

There will be much to do with your family at the Oyster Fest. These activities include Chesapeake-themed games, activities, and demonstrations; a scavenger hunt; face painting; and a contest to build a take-home model boat for $3. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief and Rescue club will entertain you by presenting retriever demonstrations at CBMM’s Navy Point.

You can also visit the exhibitions at Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. The exhibitions will feature Oystering on the Chesapeake and Waterman’s Wharf, where you and your family can search and dig for oysters. The famous oyster eating contest will begin to take place from 1 pm to 3 pm.
